What do Physiotherapists do?
Physiotherapists help patients to overcome a particular pain/problem by educating them about the problem and how to prevent the recurrence of the same. This is achieved by a thorough assessment, which may include tests of muscle strength, joint Motion, sensory and neurological functions, coordination, balance, flexibility, postural screening, movement analysis and other evaluations.
Based on the evaluation, a treatment plan is drawn up. It may comprise instrumental or non-instrumental intervention. Physiotherapy has various hands-on techniques which include soft tissue mobilization and joint mobilization skills to reduce pain, increase joint motion and soft tissue flexibility. Therapeutic exercise will help to restore strength, movement, balance and coordination, and finally to a complete functional recovery.
